With the build up to the release of their brand new EP “WTF HAPPENED” firmly underway, Bristol rising emo/alt-rock quartet Downcast are delighted to reveal the latest single from the EP.
Their new single, “your band sucks anyway”, is full of the reactionary rage that all of us have experienced at one time or another. Wrapped in the modern emo style melodies downcast are becoming increasingly well known for alongside frontman Liam Edwards distinctive voice, “your band sucks anyway” is another earworm filled step on the way to the release of “WTF HAPPENED”.
Having kept a consistent 90’s nostalgia theme with the first two music videos from “WTF HAPPENED”, downcast have taken it up another level for their new video. Where else can you see a music video that features snippets of Beavis and Butthead and Wayne’s World, plus a guest appearance from Clippy, the Microsoft paperclip so many of a certain age learned to love to hate? Not to mention members of downcast inserting themselves into scenes of everything from The Simpsons to Teletubbies to N64 classic game Pokemon Stadium.
Here’s a word from downcast about their brand new single:
“‘your band sucks’ anyway’ is an anger fuelled track with infectious hooks. It’s the perfect song to sing along to in the car after a bad day at work. If you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s, the music video will instantly send you on a nostalgia trip.”
As mentioned above, downcast’s upcoming EP is titled “WTF HAPPENED” (a name that so many of us can relate to at different stages of our lives), and will be released on the 6th of September.
Downcast have recently confirmed details of the pre-sale for physical copies of “WTF HAPPENED”, which is being released on Side Mission Records. There is now a pre-sale for both CD and vinyl copies of the EP, which will ship in mid September.
For more detail about the creation of their new EP, here is downcast frontman Liam Edwards:
“Our new EP is a collection of songs that reflect on the events of the past couple of years. It explores feelings of nostalgia, anger, romance and grief. The title is inspired by those moments where you look back at how simple and carefree your life used to be and wonder what happened.”
About downcast
After carving an impressive reputation for themselves in their local scene, Bristol natives and alt-rock/emo specialists downcast released their debut album “i saw hell when i was with you” in 2022 to huge critical and fan acclaim. Featuring the singles “catharsis”, “a weight that i can’t stand”, “mistakes that i have made” and “i want to love again”, the album was forged from a collection of the life experiences of the band, particularly frontman Liam Edwards. Produced by Ian Sadler (Cold Bones, Delaire The Liar) “i saw hell when i was with you” took downcast all around the UK, winning them new fans wherever they went. The album and singles also won them backing from Kerrang, Rock Sound, Punktastic, State Of The Scene, Spotify and YouTube official editorial playlists, to name just a few.
The next musical chapter of downcast is running throughout 2024. Beginning with their single “bittersweet” and now continuing with the news of their brand new EP WTF HAPPENED, downcast will be a must see band coming to a town or city near you soon. Don’t miss out.
