The long-awaited debut album, Innerdeeps, from Finnish progressive metal band Royal Sorrow was released last month via InsideOutMusic, and the reception from fans and critics has been outstanding.
Powermetal.de (8/10)
“Too prog for the purists, too heavy for the alt crowd, too playful for the melody lovers – yet Innerdeeps blends it all into something powerful. The longer it spins, the deeper it hits. Well done!”
Metal Hammer DE
“Rarely has a newcomer shown such impressive musical and compositional maturity.”
Rock Hard DE
“With Innerdeeps, ROYAL SORROW landed an InsideOutMusic deal right away – no surprise given the pro-level production and seasoned delivery.”
The Prog Report
“A well-prepared and tasteful debut that is heavy and adventurous.”
Eclipsed (8/10)
“Royal Sorrow is a promising Finnish group from the modern prog scene.”
Betreutes Proggen
“A confident debut with character – emotional, progressive, and powerful, without ever losing itself in self-indulgence.“
Royal Sorrow are also pleased to announce the addition of Finnish guitarist Tony Olsén as a member of the band. Olsén has performed with the band since the very first show.
Olsén says this about joining the band:
“Becoming an official member of Royal Sorrow feels both humbling and exciting. The songs, the atmosphere, and the people have felt like home from day one. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”
Since first making waves with the debut single “Metrograve”, the band has been building anticipation for the album with a stream of captivating singles, including most recently, “Survival Complex”. Featuring a noticeably large dynamic range, from atmospheric verses and soulful choruses to roaring breakdowns and triumphant melodies, Innerdeeps serves the listener an unparalleled progressive metal journey to their deepest emotional core.
Innerdeeps gathers the wreckage of what came before — the surrender of “Give In”, the self-reflection of “Looking Glass”, the trauma of “Bloodflower”, the sociocultural crisis of “Survival Complex” — and asks:
“Now that all the layers have been stripped away… what remains?”
