What the Band Says

“Playing Woodcut in full live is quite a ride. We had to learn a complicated piece of music but it has been incredibly encouraging to experience such positive reactions to our performances in the UK and Europe from the fans.”

Alberto Bravin, lead vocals

“As an American, playing in the States is extra special and I’m particularly thrilled that we will be playing for the first time ever in New York City.”

Nick D’Virgilio, drums

Bassist and founder Gregory Spawton added that it is “very gratifying” to bring the tour to the USA almost 18 months after recording Woodcut, though the band won’t make it to Canada this time. These will be Big Big Train’s third set of US shows.

From Studio Project to Touring Band

Founded by Spawton in the early 1990s, Big Big Train spent years as a mostly studio-based band known for richly detailed, very English progressive rock. Over the last four years they have become a regular touring act, and this autumn they played 19 shows across the UK and Europe in support of Woodcut. Italian singer Alberto Bravin joined in 2022 following the death of longtime frontman David Longdon, and former Spock’s Beard drummer and singer Nick D’Virgilio has been a key member for well over a decade. The band releases its music through InsideOut Music.

Our Take

A full concept album plus an hour of classics is a generous setlist, and finally reaching New York is a milestone for a band that once rarely played live at all. For American prog fans, the Gramercy Theatre show is the one to circle. Expect the Passengers Club pre-sale to move quickly.
