Copenhagen heavy rock band Empath will release their self-titled debut album on November 13 via Indisciplinarian. The band is built around the songwriting duo of vocalist Morten Grønnegaard (Qaisor) and guitarist Jacob Krogholt (Anti Ritual), who previously played together in Rising, joined by bassist KB Larsen (Volbeat, Anti Ritual) and drummer Jeppe Munk Aakeson (Knytnæve, Iota).
Across eight songs and 38 minutes, Empath draws on the heavy, progressive and psychedelic rock and metal of the ’70s and ’80s, delivered with a contemporary, organic production and synths reminiscent of old sci-fi soundtracks. Lyrically, the record examines human nature and the consequences of ambition in a world of climate change, inequality, isolation and conflict, inspired by 20th-century science fiction and Romantic-era poetry from writers such as Arthur C. Clarke, William Blake and Thomas De Quincey.
The album was produced by KB Larsen and Empath and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Deadguy, The Armed), with cover art by Morten Grønnegaard. Fans of Rising, Ghost, Rainbow, Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Rush, Dio-era Black Sabbath and Judas Priest should take note.
Empath will be released on transparent blue and black vinyl (100 copies each) and all digital formats. Pre-order here.
