Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State
Released last year via Napalm Records, the album pairs heavy riffs with delicate guitar harmonies, ethereal synths and crystal-clear production. Highlights include “Thrice,” “Warden,” “Lilac” and “Temporal,” while “Efter Solen” is sung in Swedish. Jonas Renkse produced the record, Lawrence Mackrory recorded it at NBS Audio and The City of Glass, Adam Noble mixed it and Robin Schmidt mastered it at 24-96 Mastering. We covered the album cycle with singles such as “Wind of no Change”, and the band toured North America earlier this year.
Our Take
More than 30 years in, Katatonia keep finding new places to play. This run focuses on Central and Eastern Europe, with stops in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Croatia, cities that big tours often skip. For a band whose music thrives in intimate rooms, venues like Kino Šiška and Dürer Kert should suit them perfectly. Coming about a year after the album’s release, the tour is also a chance to hear songs such as “Temporal” and “Lilac” in some of the smaller rooms on the continent. If they are coming to your city, the pre-sale is already open.
Katatonia are: Jonas Renkse (vocals), Niklas Sandin (bass), Daniel Moilanen (drums), Nico Elgstrand (guitar), Sebastian Svalland (guitar).
