Bradford stoner/doom five-piece Son of Boar will release their second album, The Hand That Reigns, on November 20 via Pale Wizard Records. Its final single, “In The Eyes Of Hatred”, arrives October 30.

Formed in 2018, the band have built a strong reputation on the UK heavy underground, sharing stages with Conjurer, Sergeant Thunderhoof, Desert Storm, Nebula, Conan and Fatso Jetson and playing Bloodstock, Riffolution, Ruination, Hard Rock Hell Fest, Hammerfest, SOPHIE Fest and Masters Of The Riff.

Darker, Heavier, More Aggressive

Recorded with Kurt Wood at Corner House Studios in Yorkshire and mastered by Dave Draper (Ginger Wildheart), The Hand That Reigns took shape while every member was going through a rough period. The result pushes the sound of their 2021 self-titled debut further, moving from groove metal to psychedelic desert rock, deep sludge and slow, crushing doom.

“On these songs, the heavy sections got heavier, the slow sections got slower, but at the same time the groove got deeper, while the melodies and atmosphere became more developed.”

Luke Oliver

Lyrically, the record deals with alienation, judgement and resilience. “In The Eyes Of Hatred” is described by the band as a song for the misfits and a call for unity and understanding in a divided world.
