Portuguese gothic metal pioneers Moonspell will celebrate 35 years with Moonfest, a brand new festival taking place on October 30, 2027 at the MEO Arena in Lisbon. The band have personally curated the lineup, which brings together Amorphis, Zeal & Ardor, Towards The Sinister and Heavenwood, with Moonspell closing the night in the biggest production of their career.

A Lineup Spanning Generations
Finland’s Amorphis are one of the most influential bands in Finnish metal, while Switzerland’s Zeal & Ardor fuse blues and gospel with black metal. Towards The Sinister was formed by the original founders of My Dying Bride, and Portugal’s Heavenwood, who mark their 30th anniversary in 2026 with new music, will open the festival. The band promise a night built on quality, fair pricing and audience comfort, and Moonspell’s own closing set will take fans on a journey through more than three decades of gothic metal with a distinctly Portuguese signature. It is billed as the first edition, so the festival could return in future years.
The announcement follows Moonspell’s sold-out show at Hard Club in Porto presenting their latest album, Far From God, and comes ahead of their 40-date European tour, God is a Vampire, with Iotunn and Todomal. It starts in Langen, Germany on March 4, 2027 and ends in Haarlem, Netherlands on April 18, with stops including London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Athens, Warsaw, Stockholm and Oslo. Before that, the band play Figueira da Foz in Portugal on January 9 and the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise on January 14.

Few bands from Portugal have reached as far as Moonspell, and launching their own festival in the country’s biggest arena feels like the right way to mark 35 years. The lineup is smart too, with each guest representing a different side of dark metal, from Amorphis’ melodic depth to Zeal & Ardor’s experiments. If this first edition works, Moonfest could become a regular stop on the European calendar.
