GRAMMY-nominated vocalist, SAG Award-winning actress, and acclaimed theater performer Amber Riley and virtuoso pianist and pop artist Micah McLaurin (Diamonds, “Don’t Give Up On Love”) have released the music video for their euphoric reimagination of multiple GRAMMY-winning, cross-genre songwriter Jimmy Webb’s hit single “MacArthur Park”.
The video is a collection of special, behind-the-scenes footage from across two continents that shows the song being created including Amber Riley cutting her vocals at LA’s historic Sunset Studios, Micah McLaurin working on the piano arrangement at British Grove Studios and continuing his journey from acclaimed concert pianist to pop artist, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, GRAMMY-winning Steven Sidwell, and London’s top brass players recording at Abbey Road Studios, and clips of the driving rhythm section being recorded in Philadelphia.
Performing the single for the first time live at Chicago Pride on Sunday, June 23, Amber Riley and Micah McLaurin’s “MacArthur Park” draws inspiration from Donna Summer’s #1, multi-million selling live version which flips the melancholic narrative of the original song inspired by the end of Jimmy Webb’s love affair. Revarnishing the dazzling megahit with a fresh sheen of retro gloss under the direction of producer Nick Patrick (Seal, The Beach Boys), Amber Riley and Micah McLaurin also worked with mixer Simon Hanhart (David Bowie, Elton John) and pop legend Larry Gold (Silk Sonic, Lizzo, Michael Jackson) who worked on the orchestral arrangement.
