Grammy-nominated metalcore pioneers As I Lay Dying return February 5, 2027 with their new self-titled album As I Lay Dying, out via Napalm Records. Two singles arrive today with official videos: “Polarized” and “Retribution.”
The two tracks were chosen to show deliberately contrasting sides of the record. “Polarized” leans melodic and accessible, pairing heavy riffs with an immediate, driving structure. “Retribution” goes darker, faster and more aggressive. Much of the album lives somewhere between those poles.
“‘Polarized’ and ‘Retribution’ show two very different sides of what we’ve been creating. One leans more melodic, while the other is darker, faster, and heavier, with much of the record living somewhere between the two. Despite how different they are, both still feel rooted in what AS I LAY DYING is. We’re excited for people to hear them and to bring this new chapter of the band on the road in February.”
Both songs are also available together as a physical vinyl single.
Why Self-Titled, 25 Years In
“Making this the first self-titled AS I LAY DYING album felt significant because the record feels like both a continuation and a reset. We weren’t trying to recreate one era of the band or force the songs into a narrow definition of what AILD should sound like. We wanted to bring together everything we naturally gravitate toward: melody, aggression, speed, heaviness, emotion, atmosphere, and big riffs, while making sure every song still felt unmistakably like AS I LAY DYING.”
For 25 years the band has helped shape the global metalcore scene across eight studio albums, selling more than a million records worldwide and landing Top 10 positions on both the Official German Album Charts and the US Billboard 200.
Lyrically the record works through transformation, letting go and personal growth. “If I Fall” pairs raw intensity with vulnerability, confronting abandonment, judgment and the strength to rise again. “Echoes” builds a darker, emotionally charged atmosphere around breaking free from destructive bonds.
The album was produced by Chris Clancy and Tim Lambesis, with “No Way Out” produced by Dusten Boles. Guest vocalist CJ McCreery of Immortal Disfigurement appears on that track. Artwork comes from Corey Meyers, who has shaped the band’s visual identity since “My Own Grave.”
