Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates have launched the official full album animated movie for The Ghost of a Future Dead, out now via Century Media Records.
The album was released worldwide this past April and stands as a tribute to frontman Tomas Lindberg, who passed away in September 2025.
As part of the release campaign, longtime collaborator Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media built a conceptual visual storyline running across the entire record, enhancing both the music and the lyrics. Animated paintings had already surfaced in the videos for “The Dissonant Void” and “In Dark Distortion.” Now the remaining songs, and the full album video, are available to watch.
Chioreanu, who handled the painting, filming, editing and production, said:
“This is by far the most intense project I’ve done, not only due the circumstances but also because the album is so intense and it requires an insane rhythm for the whole dynamic. It is also the first time that I am doing a full album art video and, honestly, I think it will remain singular of this kind in my career, as I’ve been over several of my limits with this one. But I am so happy that I could finish this monument for my friend Tomas and for his magical band, who will remain with my heart and my memory till the end of my time here and beyond.”
The album’s opening track “The Fever Mask” was previously released with an in memory tribute video to Lindberg, assembled by longtime collaborator Patric Ullaeus of rEVOLVER.
Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra Tribute
In other news, the music of At The Gates will be honoured by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in a special event called The Gothenburg Sound, where several of the band’s iconic songs will be interpreted in symphonic form alongside material by peers In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.
The concerts take place at the Gothenburg Concert Hall on December 3, 4 and 5. Final tickets for the December 3 date are available through the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra site.

The Ghost of a Future Dead was recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden, with artwork by Robert Samsonowitz. It drew strong reviews worldwide and took album of the month honors in several outlets, including Soundcheck number one placements at Metal Hammer, Rock Hard, Deaf Forever and Metal.de in Germany, Sweden Rock in Sweden, and top marks from Metallian and Rock Hard in France.
Kerrang! gave it 5 out of 5, calling Lindberg’s final work with the band one of his finest. Decibel Magazine scored it 9 out of 10, describing it as the band’s greatest triumph in the face of tragedy.
The record is available as a limited CD digipak with poster, standard CD jewelcase, digital album, and LP with booklet in standard black vinyl or various limited coloured editions with an additional poster.
