“‘Dracula’ is a song about an entity that represents seduction and control, eventually draining you of your life and everything in it. But there’s something fun about flirting with disaster, making ‘Dracula’ a playful fantasy. The moaning slide guitars take on a life force all their own. Menacing!”

The track was produced by Gary Hoey, who also plays on it, and mixed by Max Norman, the producer behind classic albums by Ozzy Osbourne and Megadeth. Bobby Rock handles the drums. We first reported on the song when Ford signed with Frontiers and announced the single.
Gary Hoey is a natural partner for this kind of song. The guitarist and producer has a long solo career of his own and is known for his yearly holiday guitar records, while Max Norman brings decades of experience shaping big, heavy guitar tones. Together they give “Dracula” a punchy, modern sound that still feels rooted in the 80s hard rock that made Ford a star.
Two Halloween Shows
Fittingly for a song about a vampire, Ford will play two special shows over Halloween weekend:
- October 30: Las Vegas, NV, Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino
- October 31: Rancho Mirage, CA, Agua Caliente Resort Casino
A Pioneer Still Writing New Music
Ford started in 1976 as lead guitarist of The Runaways, the groundbreaking all-female band behind “Cherry Bomb” and “Queens of Noise.” Her solo career took off with Out for Blood (1983) and the Grammy-nominated Dancin’ on the Edge (1984), and peaked with 1988’s multi-platinum Lita, home to “Kiss Me Deadly” and her duet with Ozzy Osbourne, “Close My Eyes Forever.” Her later albums include Stiletto, Dangerous Curves, Black and Living Like a Runaway.
She has been inducted into the Guitar Player Hall of Fame and received the magazine’s Lifetime Achievement and Certified Legend awards. In 2017 the She Rocks Awards named her the First Lady of Rock Guitar, her 2016 memoir Living Like a Runaway became a national bestseller, and her B.C. Rich Warlock guitar joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s permanent collection in 2021.
Our Take
“Dracula” plays to Ford’s strengths: a dark, campy theme, a big riff and those moaning slide guitars she mentions. Released just in time for Halloween, it is a confident start to her Frontiers era and a strong sign that her 2027 plans are worth waiting for.
