Renowned musician Richie Kotzen has unveiled the official video for his latest single, “Insomnia,” the final single before the release of his highly anticipated studio album ‘Nomad.’ The album, set to hit both physical and digital stores on September 27, 2024, will be released under the BMG label.
“Insomnia” is the third pre-release single from ‘Nomad’ and is a melancholic track imbued with frustration and anger. Richie Kotzen stays true to his Hard Rock roots while incorporating elements of funk and drawing from his deep musical influences from Philadelphia. The song’s verses simmer with the anxiety of an insomniac, building up to a powerful and vibrant chorus.
Interestingly, the central melody of “Insomnia” came to Richie in his sleep. When inspiration struck, he immediately woke up, powered on his home recording studio equipment, and worked throughout the night, resulting in what is now “Insomnia.”
Richie Kotzen shares insights into this new single:
“I woke up with that chorus melody, and at that moment, I had no idea the title would be ‘Insomnia.’”
“Although the song was written around the chorus melody, the final recording is heavily dominated by the bass and how it’s treated.”
“There are multiple bass tracks playing simultaneously to achieve that impactful sound you’re hearing,” Kotzencontinues. “I want to be known as a guitarist, but the bass plays a very important role in all my compositions. Much of what I create stems from the bass lines I write.”
‘Nomad’ – The Album
Written, recorded, and produced by Richie Kotzen, ‘Nomad’ features eight new tracks showcasing a variety of styles, all performed by Kotzen himself on nearly every instrument. The album highlights Kotzen’s diverse techniques and influences, ranging from Hard Rock to 70s Soul and Funk, as well as Jazz Fusion to Rhythm & Blues. Everything is intertwined with Kotzen’s ever-evolving signature style.
