Chicago melodic death metal powerhouse Starkill are back with the ferocious new single and video “Death On Display”, the first taste of their upcoming album Hanging Up My Halo, due January 22, 2027.

Recorded and refined over several years, Hanging Up My Halo is an aggressive return to the band’s melodic death metal roots, combining shredding leads, punishing double bass and anthemic choruses with cinematic orchestration. Francesco Ferrini of Fleshgod Apocalypse handled the symphonic production on every track, and Aleksi Munter (Swallow the Sun, Insomnium) adds synths on the title track. The album was mixed by frontman Parker Jameson, with drum mixing by Chuck Macak and mastering by Troy Glessner.

“We actually pulled a Dethklok where we wrote an entire record, trashed it, and started over. With this new cycle, we wanted to take everything people expect from Starkill – the blisteringly fast dual-guitar work, symphonic arrangements, and impactful choruses – and strip away any clutter to hit harder than ever.”

Parker Jameson

“There’s been a gap in the melodic death metal scene for years, and we’re back to plant our flag in it.”

Spencer Weidner

A Decade of Evolution

Starkill debuted in 2013 with Fires of Life, written while founders Spencer Weidner and Parker Jameson were still teenagers, followed by Virus of the Mind (2014), Shadow Sleep and 2019’s Gravity, which featured guest production from Coen Janssen (Epica), Aleksi Munter and Olli Vänskä (Turisas). After a pandemic hiatus, the band returned to the stage at 2024’s Mad With Power Fest and has since toured North America, most recently with Edge of Paradise and at Canada’s Loud As Hell Open Air.
