Steven Wilson has shared “On Chapel Slope”, the new single from his upcoming studio album Requiem For A Village, out November 6 via Fiction Records. The track arrives with a video directed by Mike Bennion.
Taking a very different path from The Overview, the new record finds Wilson returning to a more organic, human way of making music. He worked exclusively with analogue synthesizers, let instruments stay imperfectly tuned, and pushed himself to play instruments outside his comfort zone, including violin, oboe and drums.
“I wanted to get back to a kind of music where you can hear the metaphorical thumbprints. Doubling down on the human gestures and flaws in the music, stuff that can’t be created using software.”

The album features narration by Scottish actor David Tennant, with narration and some lyrics written by former XTC man Andy Partridge. Multi-instrumentalist Randy McStine, drummer Russell Holzman and vocalist Katherine Priddy also appear. Wilson describes the record as “a sepia-toned snapshot of a hidden neverland, and 54 minutes of cinema for the ears.”
Requiem For A Village will be available on CD, Blu-ray, 140g double black vinyl, oxblood double vinyl and as a deluxe box set with two CDs, a Blu-ray and a 96-page hardback book. Pre-order here.
