Steven Wilson performing Requiem for a Village

Steven Wilson has shared a live performance film of the title track from Requiem For A Village, his ninth solo album, out November 6 and available to pre-order now.

The film was recorded and shot at Sensible Music, with Wilson on lead vocals, guitars, synths and piano, joined by Randy McStine on guitars and backing vocals and Russell Holzman on drums and percussion. Shelby Logan Warne engineered, with assistance from Grace Hayhurst, Maverick Quest, Loki Domhnall, Bartek Dymowski and Norlan Miller.

Miles Skarin directed and edited, with production by Crystal Spotlight. Camera work came from Skarin, Tiago Laureano, Ben Skipp and Jack Hubbard.

The release arrives via the album’s ongoing parish council fiction, delivered as the third issue of The Village Parish Circular, dated for the 11th September Observance that the site had been teasing since launch. Per the Clerk, equipment arrived before breakfast, the curtains were drawn, and a musical act occupied the village hall under the usual terms and conditions of hire.

Publicity describes the record as an epic and uncompromising piece of “cinema for the ears,” taking a trip into the British Isles’ verdant undergrowth, where music has woven itself into the brickwork of an undiscovered village and something ancient is alive in the hedgerows, the streets, the shops and the houses.

Songs From The Village

As a preview for the album, Wilson hosts Songs From The Village, a DJ set at The Social, 5 Little Portland Street, London, on September 22.

Attendees can expect everything from the gauzy otherness of Boards of Canada and Demdike Stare and the haunted ragas of Third Ear Band, to the creeping dread found in British children’s television from the 1970s. All proceeds from ticket sales go to charity.

Those who pre-order the album from Wilson’s official store receive exclusive access to purchase tickets.

More observances have already been scheduled, though according to the Clerk, the ink is not yet dry.
