Australian progressive metal outfit Teramaze have released a new single and music video, “Palisades”, out now.

The track pushes the band into territory they have circled before without fully committing to it, folding the shimmering, atmospheric world of ’80s synthwave into their progressive metal foundation.

It is also the first Teramaze composition written with new keyboard player Luke Rosten. Rosten brought Dean Wells a synthwave-inspired progression, unsure whether it would fit the band at all. Wells told him to leave it with him, then built around the idea, layering nostalgic ’80s synth textures against the melodic intensity, progressive arrangements and heavier edge the band is known for.

“We’ve wanted to do something like this in the past, but never quite found the right way into it,” says Dean Wells. “Luke brought this really cool synthwave idea to me, and once I started working on it, everything just clicked. The combination of those ’80s sounds with what we do naturally created something that felt new and exciting.”
