Vico C, a Bronx-born artist, made a name for himself in the nineties with his agile rapping skills and compelling storytelling abilities in Puerto Rico’s underground hip hop scene. His contributions helped shape the sounds that later became hugely successful genres like reggaeton and Latin trap, which have since dominated the global music charts.
Despite never fully leaving the scene, Vico C took a step back from music to focus on his spiritual journey after surviving a near-fatal motorcycle accident and overcoming addiction. But now, he’s returned with “Pregúntale A Tu Papá Por Mi,” the first single off his upcoming album, marking his first release in 14 years.
The song is a fiery takedown of rappers and reggaeton artists who can’t back up their skills, drawing inspiration from the classic hip hop that’s been a hallmark of Vico C’s career. The video features the artist performing b-boy dance moves while sporting his signature fedora and suits.
Reflecting on his 14-year hiatus from music, Vico C explains that it was a time of growth in his life that’s been reflected in his music. He notes that he had to be prepared for the right moment to battle through, saying, “This is not a moment where I say, ‘Despite everything, I got up again.’ It’s one where I say, ‘Despite everything, I kept walking.'”
Vico C remains a respected pioneer in Latin music, with artists like Bad Bunny acknowledging his contributions to the genre. His return with “Pregúntale A Tu Papá Por Mi” is a testament to his enduring talent and passion for music.
