Brazilian progressive metal band Abstracted have released a music video for “Sirens,” from their current album Hiraeth. The six-piece recently played in Brazil supporting Between the Buried and Me, and the new clip shows them performing a song that moves from blistering technicality to melodic, atmospheric passages.

“The song explores the universal feeling of grief and the process of loss, allowing each listener to find their own meaning in it. The lyrics were written by our drummer, Fernando, capturing his deeply personal emotions after losing his brother some years ago in a tragic accident on a highway.”
Abstracted
The video was filmed inside the ruins of the historic Casa da Frontaria Azulejada in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The building is so degraded that the band had to perform with extreme care, since loud frequencies could literally bring parts of the structure down. They say that fragile, tense atmosphere brings the weight of the song to the screen.
About Hiraeth
Hiraeth was produced by Diego Castro (Kryour, Skid Life), with cover art by Roberto Emerita. It was preceded by two singles and videos: “Languish,” featuring Entheos singer Chaney Crabb, and “Axis.” The album is out on digital platforms and jewelcase CD, with Bandcamp orders shipping from the US, Europe or Brazil depending on your location.
The press has been enthusiastic. Metal Temple gave it 9/10 and praised songwriting with “unsuspecting turns and breaks,” Infernal Masquerade recommended it to fans of Obscura and Persefone, and Dead Rhetoric said the band “can surprise you at every turn.”
Eleven Years and a New Lineup
Hiraeth arrives four years after Atma Conflux. In that time, the band’s core trio of vocalist Rosano Pedro Matiussi, bassist Riverton Vilela Alves and keyboardist Carol Lynn welcomed guitarists Leonardo Brito and José Consani and drummer Fernando Pollon. Their influences range from Opeth, Vildhjarta and Between the Buried and Me to jazz fusion, and the music swings from total chaos to intricate, airy passages.
Our Take
Prog metal can feel like a showcase of technique, but “Sirens” is built on something real: a drummer writing about losing his brother. Filming in a crumbling building that could collapse under the volume is the perfect visual metaphor for that fragility. Fans of Between the Buried and Me and Persefone should give Hiraeth the focused listen it demands.
