UK alt metal trio One Last Day have released their debut album, Echoes In The Silence, independently, along with a video for its focus single “Hollow Gods,” directed by Shaun Hodson of Loki Films. The band names Breaking Benjamin, Nothing More and Sleep Theory among the touchstones for fans.

The band describes “Hollow Gods” as “the tortured reality of trying to be an artist in an ever more AI dominated world.” It is built on a huge chorus, a grooving bridge and a deeply emotional undercurrent, and it sits second on the album, right after the opener “Into Dust.”

From EP to Debut Album

Echoes In The Silence collects the songs from the band’s 2025 EP, Eyes Like Glass // Thoughts Like Fuel, alongside six new tracks, tracing the band’s past, present and future. That EP raised their profile considerably: lead single “Still Breathing” earned radio play on Kerrang! and Grave Noise praised it as “oozing passion, showcasing explosivity, and delivering powerful melodies that are undeniably infectious.”

The trio says the album spans “art and humanity’s struggling against the AI revolution, self-reflection on your internalisations, accounting the cost of existence vs what we leave behind.” Musically it refuses to sit in one lane. “Lost & Blind” pushes into heavier territory, while the restrained “Don’t Go Under” is about finding solace in a chaotic, exhausting world. The closing track features William Alex Young of Defences.

Kyle Parke handled the drum arrangements, and Meyrick De La Fuente recorded and produced the vocals. Releasing a debut of this scale without a label is a statement in itself: the trio has built its following show by show and single by single, and Echoes In The Silence arrives just over a year after the EP that first put them on the UK radar.

Our Take

Writing about AI from an artist’s point of view is a theme many musicians are wrestling with right now, and One Last Day turn it into something you can actually sing along to. The UK has no shortage of riff-heavy alt metal bands, but few self-released debuts sound this polished. If you like the big-chorus side of modern rock with real weight underneath, this is worth your time.

One Last Day are: Huw Roch (vocals, bass), Gareth Stapleton (guitar), John Harmsworth (guitar).
