Australian progressive metal band Teramaze will play Japan for the first time this December, joining Italian prog metal veterans DGM for two shows in Tokyo. The partnership grew out of the bands’ appearance together at ProgPower USA in Atlanta in September.

  • December 3: Tokyo, Koenji HIGH (“Early Days”)
  • December 4: Tokyo, Akabane ReNY alpha (“And Now”)

The two nights are billed as “Early Days” and “And Now,” and promise a varied evening of high-calibre progressive metal, combining DGM’s European flair with Teramaze’s mix of melodic hooks, technical precision and modern heaviness. The bands say they built a strong connection both on and off stage in Atlanta and are keen to continue it in Japan.

A Busy Year for Teramaze

It has been a busy 2026 for the band led by guitarist and main songwriter Dean Wells. They released a new recording of fan favorite “Weight of Humanity”, a cover of Linkin Park’s “In the End,” the single “Palisades,” and most recently “Face Down”, a surprising turn into country rock. They are also celebrating the fifth anniversary of And The Beauty They Perceive with a remixed and remastered reissue, available to pre-order at teramaze.com.au.

Playing ProgPower USA, one of the most respected progressive metal festivals in the world, put them in front of a large international audience, and taking the next step into Japan, a country with a famously devoted prog and melodic metal fanbase, is a natural move.

About DGM

Formed in Rome in the mid-90s, DGM are one of Italy’s most respected progressive metal bands. Signed to Frontiers Music, their recent albums include Life (2023) and Endless (2024), and they have built a strong following in Japan over the years. They also played ProgPower USA in 2026, on a Friday bill that included Hammerfall, Nevermore, Crimson Glory and Evergrey.

For fans who cannot make it to Tokyo, Teramaze’s recent singles and the reissue are the best way to catch up on where the band is heading, and both bands share their tour news across their social channels.

Our Take

Japan has long been one of the best places in the world for melodic progressive metal, and this pairing makes perfect sense. DGM bring the experience and the fanbase, while Teramaze get the chance to win over a new audience. Two different themed nights also give fans a reason to attend both shows.

Teramaze are: Nathan Peachey (vocals), Dean Wells (guitars), Luke Rosten (keyboards), Andrew Cameron (bass), Nick Ross (drums).
