Slovak melodic power metal band Signum Regis have released their new album, Beyond Spacetime, today via Fireflash Records, and they are celebrating with a new single and video, “Tell Our Fears Goodbye.” The song features Johnny Gioeli, frontman of Hardline and Axel Rudi Pell, and it appears as an exclusive bonus track on the CD edition of the album.

Order Beyond Spacetime here.

The track is a clear departure for the band, an acoustic ballad written by guitarist Filip Koluš for his wife. He explains:

“This song is very different from what you’re used to hearing from Signum Regis. It’s a wonderful ballad driven by acoustic guitar and the phenomenal voice of Johnny Gioeli.”

Gioeli is just as enthusiastic: “A nostalgic feel, coupled with a massive hook… now this is a song.”

An Album of Guest Voices

Beyond Spacetime took about three years to make. It was originally meant to be sung entirely by Jota Fortinho, but he left the band in 2024 with the album 80 percent recorded. Instead of starting over, the band wrote a wish list of singers, and almost all of them said yes. The result features Tim “Ripper” Owens, formerly of Judas Priest, Matt Smith of Theocracy, Ralf Scheepers of Primal Fear, Gioeli, Tasos Lazaris and David Åkesson, along with a guitar solo by Victor Smolski on “Throne Of Gold.” Returning singer Mayo Petranin and Fortinho also share the duet “Echoes Of Glory.”

Koluš produced and mixed the album, Miro Kiiski mastered it and Uwe Jarling painted the cover, sending the band’s mascot King Rex into space. We have followed the album with singles such as “Back To Zero” and “Time To Pay”.

Our Take

Losing a singer with an album almost finished could have sunk this record. Instead, Signum Regis turned it into a dream guest list, and a band that celebrates its 20th anniversary next year now has an album that doubles as a tour through its own influences. Ending the campaign with a gentle acoustic ballad sung by Johnny Gioeli is a brave choice for a power metal band, and a sign that they are not afraid to break their own rules.

Signum Regis are: Mayo Petranin (vocals), Filip Koluš (guitars), Ronnie König (bass), Ján Tupý (keyboards, backing vocals), Jaro Jančula (drums).
