From Side Project to Standalone Force
Crownshift began as a long-held vision shared by four friends, all seasoned musicians known for their work with Nightwish, Children Of Bodom, Wintersun and Finntroll. Their self-titled debut was well received by critics and made an immediate impact on the charts. An intense touring cycle followed, including major Finnish festivals, a European tour supporting Dirkschneider and a slot on the 2025 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. They also caught attention with a heavy cover of Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet”.
The band says that touring energy fuels the new album, which they describe as heavier, more melodic and more dynamic than the debut. In their words, The Shadows We Buried “is not a reinvention, but the sound of a band fully realizing its vision.”
What to Expect
Nine tracks make up the new record, from the opener “The Portal” to the closing “Until The Silence Falls.” Titles such as “I Will Give You War,” “All Hail The One” and “Behold The Crown” hint at the same dark, regal imagery that runs through the band’s artwork and name. Placing the title track at the center of the album, with the single right after it, suggests a record built as a continuous journey rather than a set of separate songs, which fits the band’s progressive leanings.
Our Take
Supergroups often fade after one album, but Crownshift clearly want to be a real band. Years on the road have sharpened them, and “In The Dead Of Night” sounds like a group with its own identity rather than a collection of famous résumés. With that pedigree, the second album is one to watch at the start of 2027.
