Cassidy Paris’ debut album is an enjoyable, well-done slice of melodic rock. The album’s sound is a mix of both classic and modern rock styles, with the best moments often being those that pull from the classic rock sphere to a greater degree. Two strengths of this release stand out with just a cursory listen: the songs are very melodic and catchy, and Cassidy Paris has a powerful and exceedingly appealing voice.
The album begins with one of its strongest tracks in “Danger.” The song features a great riff, a great hook, and great vocals—the perfect choice for an opening song.
“Rock n Roll Hearts” follows and, while it is not quite as strong as “Danger,” it proves to be another solid track with a good riff.
A ballad is next in the form of “Here I Am.” This song is a solid ballad and really shows off Cassidy’s exceptional voice.
We return to a higher level of energy with the next song, “Walking on Fire.” Good riffs and great melodies are present here.
A more modern direction can be found in “On the Bright Side.” While this song is not one of the very best on the album, it maintains the album’s remarkable catchiness.
The only real weak spot on the album to this reviewer is “Song for the Broken Hearted.” The track builds during the verses, but the chorus never really clicks. The track does feature a good solo and Cassidy’s wonderful vocals.
One of the best songs on the album follows in “Searching for a Hero.” The music is compelling and the chorus is fantastic. The sound is slightly darker and it works well.
The energy continues with “Like I Never Loved You.” The song features good riffs and is very catchy.
“Stand” is a ballad and, while the music is overall not remarkable, the song is elevated by both powerful vocals and a short but sweet guitar solo.
The energy level is high on “Addicted.” The song also features a nice opening guitar lick and a good, bouncy guitar line in the verses.
Finally, “Midnight Desire” is another winner. This track boasts more of an 80s sound and it works very well. The chorus is particularly great.
On the whole, New Sensation is an excellent debut and a great listen for fans of melodic rock. I do wish the guitar sound was a bit more muscular, as Cassidy certainly has the vocal power to handle a heavier sound. Cassidy Paris has a truly excellent voice and the songs are exceedingly catchy. You’ll be singing along with only one listen.
