German thrash veterans Exumer have released a video for “Blinding Skies”, a track from their new album Death Mask Messiah, out now on Metal Blade Records.

Co-founding vocalist Mem V. Stein explained the song’s subject matter:

“Driven by a relentless barrage of riffs, the song’s lyrical content highlights the consequences of political overreach and the influence of the military-industrial complex – pushing society into prolonged conflict that benefits a few at the expense of many. It’s a perspective we feel is important to highlight, given the platform we have and the current climate.”

Death Mask Messiah is the band’s sixth album and their fourth for Metal Blade, arriving seven years after their previous studio record. The 11 tracks were recorded between December 2025 and January 2026, produced by Dominic Paraskevopoulos, known for his work with Kreator and Caliban, and mixed and mastered by Arthur Rizk, whose credits include Soulfly and King Diamond. The result leans more direct and brutal than its predecessors.

It is also the first Exumer album cut with the rhythm section of drummer Jerome Reil and bassist Alex Voss. “You can feel their young energy, coupled with our trademark aggression and experience,” Mem said. “The band sounds more focused and yet raw, thanks to their addition to the lineup.”

Conceptually the record draws on American politics over the past decade, the pandemic, and the way misinformation has been used to widen cultural divides. Mem also revisited the standoff at Waco, Texas and the Branch Davidians. “David Koresh was a false prophet and wore a death mask, manipulating and leading his followers to certain death,” he noted. “Each song picks up an individual theme of these two strains of thought.”

The band’s stated goal is that listeners going through difficult times, personal or otherwise, do not feel alone with it. “Fans sing along, they show up and share their thoughts with us on tour,” Mem said. “I feel accomplished when I can reach just one individual and make them feel better or supported.”

The album closes with a cover of Nasty Savage’s “Unchained Angel” featuring a guest vocal from that band’s Nasty Ronnie Galletti. Exumer opened for Nasty Savage on their first European tour back in 1988.

Death Mask Messiah is available on CD-Digipak and digital formats, plus vinyl in four color variants: 180g Black, “Galaxy” Red/Black, “Saturn” Grey/Brown Ripple (limited to 250) and “Onyx” Black Ice with White Splatter (limited to 250).
