Pure Reason Revolution Present New Single “Black-Arrow Acrobats” Featuring Mariusz Duda

Sep 2, 2026

Progressive alternative rockers Pure Reason Revolution have released “Black-Arrow Acrobats”, the second single from their upcoming album Terrifying Angels. The track features guest bass from Mariusz Duda of Lunatic Soul and Riverside.

Terrifying Angels is out September 25, 2026, and marks the band’s fourth record since they reactivated in 2019. A UK headline tour follows in November.

Bandleader Jon Courtney said of the new song:

“I had a lot of fun creating this track, it came together quickly and became a rollercoaster full of surprises. Lyrically, it explores escaping a consuming relationship where grief blurs reality and fantasy. It’s my favourite on the album, and Mariusz Duda’s exquisite bass performance makes it even more special.”

Where 2024’s Coming up to Consciousness leaned gentle, working through sorrow and transience, this one goes the other direction. The new material is darker and heavier, built on savage riffs, ominous soundscapes and thrashing, grungy layers, though the band’s transcendent vocal harmonies are still very much in place.

“The last record was more chill, so it just felt terribly natural to do something grittier, heavier and more aggressive,” Courtney explained.

The core trio of Courtney, Annicke Shireen and Ravi Kesavaram brought in a wide cast for the album, mixing old friends with new collaborators. The title track came out of a jam session in Portland, Oregon with founding member Greg Jong, who also co-wrote “Rumination Ruin”. “Haywire Heart” and “Hold Your Wrath”, the shortest and longest tracks in the band’s catalog respectively, were both written with Paul Mullen, formerly of Losers and Yourcodenameis:milo. “Below Radiance” grew out of a section written by Courtney’s mentee Kenny Fitzgerald.

Beyond Duda, the album features bass from Kristoffer Gildenlöw. Bruce Soord of The Pineapple Thief handled the mix once again, and the artwork comes from Carl Glover.

Terrifying Angels will be available as a limited CD digipak, gatefold LP and digital album.
