Prog-pop cult legends The Mommyheads are gearing up for the release of their most ambitious album yet, “CONEY ISLAND KID,” on September 19. This marks their 15th studio LP and a first venture into the realm of concept albums. The album will be available via FANFAR! Records in Europe and Mommyhead Music worldwide. Pre-orders are now open.

This anticipated release features the distinctive lead single “Why Aren’t You Smiling,” accompanied by an official music video directed by the band’s founder, Adam Elk. The video premieres on YouTube today.

PRE-ORDER CONEY ISLAND KID

Last year’s “GENIUS KILLER” showcased The Mommyheads’ creative prowess, lauded for its youthful maturity. “CONEY ISLAND KID” builds upon this legacy, painting a vibrant technicolor prog-pop landscape infused with Coney Island imagery that delves into themes of introspection and urgency, capturing the pier’s atmosphere.

From the nostalgic acoustics of “Spookarama” reminiscent of their debut to the progressive epic of the title track and the ethereal “Onset, MA,” The Mommyheads masterfully blend existential reflection and progressive influences. Having constantly evolved over their career, “CONEY ISLAND KID” encapsulates the band’s eccentricities more cohesively than ever before.
