British heavy metal legends Saxon have released “Medusa,” the second single and video from their upcoming album Gods of Thunder, out January 22, 2027 via Silver Lining Music. They have also announced new European dates for 2027 and named Armored Saint as special guests for the UK and Ireland leg of the tour.

Inspired by the Gorgon of Greek mythology, whose gaze turned mortals to stone, “Medusa” is built on a killer riff and classic heavy metal power, with Biff Byford’s unmistakable vocals leading the charge.
“A step into the world of Greek mythology ‘Medusa’, a god who could turn you to stone with a glance! Epic metal, epic story! Enjoy”

The artwork is again by Peter Sallai, and the band is running a competition to win a signed, Medusa-themed guitar. If you missed it, here is the album’s title track:

About Gods of Thunder
Produced by Byford and mixed by Andy Sneap (Judas Priest, Exodus, Accept), Gods of Thunder will be available on several vinyl variants, CD, exclusive bundles and digital. To mark its release, Byford, Doug Scarratt and former Diamond Head guitarist Brian Tatler will host HMV in-store signings across the UK. The lineup is completed by Nigel Glockler on drums and Nibbs Carter on bass.
Our Take
Nearly five decades in, Saxon still know exactly how to write a gallop-and-chorus anthem, and a mythological theme suits them perfectly. Pairing them with Armored Saint makes the UK leg a must for classic metal fans, and the return of the eagle is the kind of spectacle few bands still bother with.
